Student Ophthalmology Review Day (SORD)

Student Ophthalmology Review Day (SORD)
The Royal College of Ophthalmologists is again running a study day for medical students, the Student Ophthalmology Review Day (SORD) this time on Thursday 16 March 2023.  The day is intended to cover clinical knowledge and skills at a level appropriate for medical students in their clinical years. It will be delivered face to face at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, 18 Stephenson Way, London, NW1 2HD and will be taken by Dr Michael Williams, Ophthalmology Consultant and Senior Lecturer in the Centre for Medical Education in Queen's University of Belfast, and RCOphth Lead for Undergraduate Education. This is the sixth year that the College has run such a day. Previous SORDs have proved very popular and sold out. Below is a selection of feedback: “The course was well run and delivered”. “Well worth the admission fee”. “Engaging and very informative course”. ”A great learning experience”.

Medical students all learn ophthalmology. However, knowledge and skills gained on ophthalmology attachments can atrophy with lack of use. This refresher course is intended for medical students who want to cover the essential knowledge and core skills in a day. By the end of the day, students should be able to safely assess patients presenting with an ophthalmic problem and make an appropriate management or referral decision.
